Mission: The West Region Wildfire Council promotes wildfire preparedness, prevention and mitigation education throughout Delta, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Montrose, Ouray and San Miguel counties. Our mission is to mitigate loss due to wildfire in wildland urban interface communities while fostering interagency regional partnerships to help prepare counties, fire protection districts, communities and agencies to plan for and mitigate potential threats from wildfire.
History: WRWC was established in 2007 as a collaborative effort to support interagency efforts to develop and implement plans to better mitigate the threat of catastrophic wildland fire to the communities and natural resources in the Colorado counties of Delta, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Montrose, Ouray and San Miguel.
Fiscal Agent: The West Region Wildfire Council is part of a collaborative partnership with the San Juan Mountains Association who, since 2010, has acted as WRWC’s Fiscal Agent. The San Juan Mountains Association is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit organization.
Office: The WRWC office is located in Montrose, CO. Our office is co-located with the Colorado State Forest Service office in the USDA Service Center Building at the following address:
